BMW was recently named the best premium brand in terms of electromobility in a survey. Indeed, the Bavarian brand is focused on innovation and accelerating the electrification of cars. But in the case of the recently introduced i7, electric drive has taken a backseat. That’s because limousine-style sedans stand out because of their luxury, sophistication, and even an excess of convenience when it comes to comfort. At the rear of the Chauffeur Drive
i7 xDrive60, luxury begins as soon as you open the door. Just touch the buttons at the end of the steering wheel (all four are included to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics). However, at this point you should move away from the area of the door opening (so that the sensor does not interfere with the process). And voila, the interior is fully lined in leather, using the finest and most tactile materials a car sold in EUA can boast.
But the highlight is the huge 31.3-inch screen with 8K resolution. Something only available on i7. This is more than even the competitors Audi RS e-tron GT quattro (Reais 1,103,990) or Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan (Reais 1,399,900) can offer. It’s exactly like a movie theater room. Integrated Amazon Fire TV comes bundled with streaming services. To reflect all this, BMW will provide him with 20 GB of data and 5G connectivity per month for one year. Test it in your massage car. Ice-cold air, few bumps (after all, the i7’s suspension is designed for maximum comfort for rear-seat passengers), and soothing music along the route. This is the life many people want. But since we’re talking about work here, it’s time to get in the front seat and drive a 100% electric sedan. This route passes through the interior of São Paulo, the Mogi das Cruzes region, to the capital. The car is behaving strangely.
First, a brief introduction. The BMW i7 has plenty to please those who don’t own an internal combustion engine car, from electrical adjustment of every aspect (such as the seats and steering wheel) to driving modes that change the interior lighting and generate sounds. It has all the features you need. This panel features details such as hidden air conditioning vents and the absence of multiple buttons. Ventilation is via a central 14.9-inch screen only. However, the overconcentration of commands in multimedia may be off-putting to those who are not very into technology. In this case, you can use voice commands. In the same part, it is worth noting that a 12.3-inch monitor is placed on the instrument panel. There, for example, you can monitor GPS coordinates in augmented reality, in addition to several functions. Sport operation
Equipped with two electric motors (one on the front axle and one on the rear axle), the all-wheel drive i7 has a total output of 544 hp. There is no need to say that the act is akin to “walking on rails.” After all, it has dynamics typical of German cars. If you’re a sporty German, why not?
Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, the i7 has performance that rivals Porsche. Because while a large sedan with an electric motor can achieve this feat, the super sports car 911 GT3 RS needs 3.2 seconds (read test report). In other words, the difference between a racing car and a road-legal car is just 1.5 seconds. But this is easy to justify, especially since every time the sedan accelerates he takes off with a total torque of 75.9 mkgf. In electric cars, torque is instantaneous. BMW claims a top speed of 240 km/h, although it wasn’t that far in our test drive.
Officially the autonomy is 479 km (inmetro). However, after all the driving, the vehicle still had almost 50% of its total charge remaining at the end of the test day. The battery (101.7 kWh) will therefore last another 200 km.
Width is an obstacle
The i7 is especially equipped with air suspension and rear axle steering, which are very useful when maneuvering and in everyday traffic. The problem is that the streets of big cities are getting narrower and narrower. Especially since it’s a car with an overall width of 1.95 meters. At this point, the lane departure warning system with steering correction starts to go haywire.
In addition to this equipment, the BMW sedan is equipped with semi-autonomous features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, and remote parking. But even though the steering and brake responses are extremely precise, and driving is an easy task, almost every wealthy person who has already bought an i7 will no doubt prefer to sit in the back seat. It’s definitely my choice!
