In April last year, Toyota unveiled the bZ4X concept, the brand’s first electric SUV, made in partnership with Subaru, debuting the e-TNGA platform. With details revealed in October, it was a matter of time before the deluxe version was announced. Today, Lexus introduces the RZ 450e.
Despite using the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X and Solterra, the RZ has two electric motors, one on each axle, which together produce 230 kW or 312 hp of power, almost 100 hp more than the Toyota 4WD version. It will come equipped with a battery capacity of 71.4 kWh that allows an estimated autonomy of 415 km. Highlight for the DIRECT4 system, which manages to transfer 100% of the power to any axle and changing the proportion according to the speed, acceleration and steering angle.
One of the highlights is the new electronic steering system (Steer-by-Wire), which facilitates manoeuvring, linked to the lane keeping system and the DIRECT4 system. The independent suspension is associated with a frequency-reactive damper, which changes the damping intensity according to the surface condition the vehicle is traveling on. In terms of safety, the SUV will come with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 system.
Inside it uses sustainable materials, it is equipped with a 12.3″ digital instrument panel, a 14″ multimedia center and a Head-up Display. Both the Solterra and the bZ4X have yet to have defined prices.
