Last October, BMW launched the battery-electric model iX1, sales in Europe started in November and now arrives in Brazil. It is produced at the BMW plant in Regensburg. and its suggested public price is R$ 421,950. As it comes with the M Sport aesthetic package, the look is the same as the new generation X1 with a combustion engine, launched here in January and tested by Gerson Borini in early July .
The same thing happens inside. Everything is identical to the combustion version. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional consists of a curved screen consisting of two pieces, 10.25” (instrument panel) and 10.7” (multimedia) with the new Operating System 8 and displays information in an attractive and intuitive way.
The full model name is iX1 xDrive30 M Sport, and indicates that the traction is but four wheels, with the rear traction acting automatically if necessary. Propulsion is by two electric motors, one on each axle. The individual powers were not informed by the manufacturer, only the total, which is 313 hp. The torque, also only total, is 50.4 m·kgf. The performance informed by BMW is exciting: 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h even if limited.
With a curb weight of 2,085 kg, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.6 seconds and top speed is 180 km/h. Wheels are 20 inch with 8″ splint with 245/40R20 tires. Suspension and brakes repeat the X1.
The 800 volt battery is located on the floor and its capacity is 66.5 kW·h. The range of the iX1 for purposes of the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program, conducted by Inmetro, is 303 kilometers. For information purposes, according to the WLTP cycle adopted in Germany, the range is 360 kilometers.
ts dimensions are length 4,500 mm, width 1,945 mm (1,104 mm with mirrors), height 1,642 mm and wheelbase, 2,692 mm. Trunk capacity has not been reported, but the narrow spare wheel on the floor certainly takes up considerable space. Payload is 570 kg and minimum ground clearance 170 mm; minimum curve diameter, 11.4 meters.
The iX1 vehicle charges 100% of its battery in 6h30min in the BMW Wallbox set at 11 kW. To ensure recharging at home and when traveling, two high-power chargers are included with the car: a portable Flex Charger, which also offers power of up to 11 kW, and a BMW Wallbox of up to 22 kW. The chargers have an international type-2 socket standard, compatible with all BMW and non-BMW vehicles. As for recharging ultra-fast chargers, it takes 38 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80%, the most common recharge range in road use.
In terms of connectivity, the BMW iX1 features BMW ConnectedDrive, which provides services such as: emergency call, maintenance notification via telemetry, navigation with real-time traffic information, news portals, weather and apps. There is the Digital Key Plus that replaces the vehicle’s physical keys for opening the doors and energizing the engines.
With the newest, fastest and safest technology, called UWB ( ultra-wide band), there is no longer any need to bring your smartphone or smartwatch close to the vehicle door handle to open it and energize — “turn on” — the engines. The technology is available for compatible Apple and Samsung models. The customer can also share keys completely digitally, by sending a message.
There are also remote services that can be activated from the My BMW application , such as locking and unlocking the doors, honking the horn, climate control, locating the vehicle and sending destinations directly to the navigation system. Furthermore, it is possible to use smartphone applications, prepared for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wirelessly.
Among the available equipment, parking assistant, digital automatic air conditioning, new generation access comfort (unlocks and turns on welcome lights when approaching the car and locks the vehicle when leaving without having to touch the key, in addition to to make it possible to open the trunk, which is motorized, by bringing your foot closer to the rear bumper).
There is also the intelligent driving assistant in situations of slow traffic or on long journeys, informing the driver, through visual and sound alerts, involuntary lane changes and frontal approach control and prevention. Among other features, windshield data projector, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system and wireless smartphone battery charger. In this, as in the X1, the device is in a vertical position and held in place by a plastic bar.
There is also the BMW Intelligent personal assistant, capable of performing numerous functions in the vehicle or explaining the operation of equipment, activated by voice command with the phrase “Hello, BMW ”, or any other phrase programmed by the driver. The model can also connect with Amazon Alexa and smart homes, in addition to being able to receive remote software updates when available.
