BMW i7 Protection

The first units of the new BMW 7 Series and i7 will start arriving at dealerships in mid-September. The Bavarian brand has already started production of the two models, combustion and electric, at the German factory in Dingolfing. However, this is not today’s big news, but one that the manufacturer has been keeping secret and revealed very discreetly: that of the unprecedented BMW i7 Protection. This surname is used by the Bavarians to identify the special versions that are offered to high world personalities, a line of armored models and with a level of protection with which they can avoid anti-terrorist attacks. The most interesting thing about this i7 is that it is the first electric and armored model that one of the European premium brands offers, and with the most powerful version available today in the catalog of this luxury sedan and 100% zero emissions, the BMW i7 xDrive60.The secret was revealed after an international summit held in Upper Bavaria, where BMW participated with a fleet of different models and, among them, three of the armored i7, going completely unnoticed among the attendees. It turns out that, aesthetically, it does not differ from the conventional versions of the electric model, so it is not possible to stop and analyze all the details and come to the conclusion that this very particular i7 is more special.BMW has confirmed that series production of the i7 Protection will start in the course of 2023, but has not provided any details of the German sedan’s level of protection, but at a minimum the class should be VR6. Very interesting technical details, because if this luxury sedan shows a weight on the scales of just over 2.7 tons due to its volume and the equipped battery, it can be easily duplicated only with the body armor, and what must be added due to to the different protection systems on board. In addition, another of the equally interesting questions is whether BMW will offer a more powerful battery in the i7 Protection, given its relevant extra weight, since the net capacity of 101.7 kWh certainly falls far short and significantly reduces the 625 kilometers announced as autonomy maximum. The conventional version of the model, which has two powerful electric motors and all-wheel drive, one on each axle – the front with a total of 190 kW (258 hp) and the rear with 230 kW (313 hp) – generates a maximum power of 400 kW, no less than 544 hp to pull such a mass.
